- 1509 – Death of Edward Courtenay, 1st Earl of Devon. He was buried at Tiverton.
- 1533 - Archbishop Thomas Cranmer proclaimed that Henry VIII's marriage to Anne Boleyn was valid. See video below.
- 1535 – Birth of Sir Thomas North, translator, in London.
- 1582 – Executions of Roman Catholic priests Thomas Forde, John Shert and Robert Johnson at Tyburn. They were hanged, drawn and quartered for an alleged plot against Elizabeth I that may not have even been real. See video below
- 1588 - The Spanish Armada set sail from Lisbon in Portugal bound for the Spanish Netherlands in preparation for an invasion of England. See video below.
