Today is the 482nd anniversary of Elizabeth I's birth on 7th September 1533, so Happy Birthday Elizabeth!
Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, and she was born at the Palace of Placentia, or Greenwich Palace. Astrologers had predicted that the baby would be the longed-for boy, so her gender must have been a bit of a disappointment to the royal couple, but this little girl, who was described as resembling her father and having the stars' influence favour everything at her birth1, grew up to become a great queen.
