Auctioned: Golden Elizabeth Coin
A golden coin which depicts Queen Elizabeth I has been sold in Germany. It was bought for $770,000 at Auktionshaus Künker in Osnabrück, making it the most expensive coin ever auctioned in the country. According to the senior chief of the auction house, "such large gold coins are extremely rare."

A Jolly Re-opening
After two long years the Red Lodge Museum in Bristol finally opened its doors again. To celebrate this joyous occasion, visitors were able to get a glimpse of 16th Century life as a group of musical reenactors performed music from the Tudor era.
For One Night Only: Dine Like a Tudor
On April 9th, the Church Bar and Restaurant in Northampton journeyed back to 1522 for a Tudor style banquet. The guests got to enjoy a four-course meal which included Pottage Stews, Crusty Breads, Confit Rhubarb & Vanilla Custard Tarts, and much more. During the night there was a lot of entertainment provided by an English Heritage Jester who “even performed for the Queen as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations.” In addition to this, The Medieval Minstrel amused the guests with instruments such as the lute, hurdy-gurdy, cittern, English bagpipes and colascione.

Easter Fun at Tudor Castles
During the weekend of the 16th and 17th of April, various Tudor castles in the UK celebrated Easter. At Hever Castle (Anne Boleyn’s childhood home) people could participate in a colourful carrots Easter hunt, an Easter egg hunt, a workshop, and more. The fun at Hampton Court Palace included a hunt for delicious Lindt Gold bunnies and Kentwell Hall challenged families to find decorated eggs, which were placed around the gardens and through the woods.

Immerse Yourself in the Gunpowder Plot
Technically, this did not happen in the Tudor era, but we still wanted to mention that in May something exciting will take place at the immersive theatre space in Tower Vaults, at the UNESCO World Heritage Tower of London. “Your five senses will ignite as the latest digital technology is paired with live, immersive theatre and real, physical sensations. As you step back into 1605, this multilayered experience will make you feel like you are there. History is happening around you, and you are part of it.” The 1 hour and 40 minutes long adventure also features many actors including Tom Felton in the digital role of Guy Fawkes.

Exhibition: Power & Image - Royal Portraiture & Iconography
In honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne, Sotheby’s London will open its doors to a series of events for the joyous milestone. One of the events is the exhibition ‘Power & Image: Royal Portraiture & Iconography’, in which visitors can enjoy the portraits of each of the seven queens regnant of Britain, including the Armada portrait of Elizabeth I.

A Sunny Heritage Festival
This summer the village of Desford will travel back in time for the 2022 Heritage Festival. In the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July the town “will be turned into different time zones, from medieval era to the world wars.” As a build-up to the weekend, Tudor reenactors toured some historic homes in Leicestershire.
